Kaisa Kettunen

Aavalaakso is an illustrated online environment created as a response to the sim-game stable scene’s lack of user-friendly websites. While members of the community have been able to communicate imagined environments in writing, the experience is still left partial due to the poor quality of the visuals and the ease of browsing.

The design was to be kept simple so that the intricate illustrations could be allowed the attention they require. The simple act of attaching the menu to the bottom left corner makes for a more smooth browsing experience. The experience is further enhanced by intuitive gallery menus, engaging text layouts and technical drawings of the environment while keeping in mind the expected structure of a sim-game stable. Members of the community were consulted in both the web design as well as the written content.
